The next trial will be on Sat 9 June for entry in September 18.
Please arrive at the following times depending on birth year:
2009 or younger 1.15pm for 1.30pm start
2008 and 2007 1.40pm for 1.50pm start
2006 and older 2.00pm for 2.10pm start
We will try to stay to time but it depends how many children come in each age group. Please fill in the attached Acceptance of Trial form to confirm your attendance. http://www.barnessc.org/acceptance-of-trial-invitation-and-registration.html
The trial will be held at the pool at St Paul’s boys school. Parents should enter by the glass door by the reception area (Normally spectators are not allowed but you will be allowed in to see the trial). St Paul’s request that overshoes are worn and no parents are allowed into the changing rooms/wet area for Safeguarding reasons (irrespective of the age of the child). I would recommend that your child arrives wearing their swimming costume as the changing rooms will be quite busy when you come (they will be able to change in the changing rooms after the trial). Girls will need to wear a swimming hat
The children will be grouped by birth year and will be expected to swim a number of lengths in each stroke. It is more important that they swim technically well rather than trying to swim fast.
I have attached the squad criteria for our lowest squad so you have an idea of the minimum level required to be considered for the club. http://www.barnessc.org/d4.html
The older the child the higher our expectations will be. Attached are the criteria for our Development 1 squad which has a maximum age of 12 (although we are unlikely to take anyone for this squad over the age of 11) http://www.barnessc.org/d1.html
Further information on squad criteria can be found on our website including the maximum age for each squad. Usually the majority of children we take are under 9 years old
The coaches will assess the children and then places will be offered by email within a week of the trial depending on the number of spaces available in the relevant squads. We are relatively full at the moment so will only be able to offer places to the most competent swimmers in each age group assuming that they fulfil the squad criteria for their relevant age group.
