SENIOR PERFORMANCE DEVELOPMENT (SPD)
SQUAD CRITERIA
1. SWIMMING COMPETENCE
To join these squads a swimmer will able to perform:
These criteria serve as guidance*. Coaches expect the right attitude and commitment from swimmers already in this squad or swimmers wishing to join this squad who are fully committed to team ethos, and goals (individual and team), to be on time and fully prepared for all sessions and competitions (training gear, water bottle, team kit etc).
2. COMMITMENT
Training: Time available 7.5 or 9 hours (5 or 6 sessions) per week.
Whilst there is no strict number of sessions, each swimmer will be advised by the coach as to the level of commitment required to attain their specific goals.
Competitions:Swimmers are welcome to compete and represent BSC at any gala or event they qualify for, including County Championships, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 Licensed Open Meets, Club Championships and other Inter Club Swim Leagues.
3. AGE
JPD: Girls and Boys 12-14
SPD: Girls and Boys 15-18
4. AIMS AND ASPIRATIONS
This is the automatic route after the Development Squad, for those swimmers whose current ambition, commitment or performance does not meet the criteria of P1 or P2. This includes also swimmers that might meet some criteria for P1 or P2, but prefer swimming mainly with their school team, those who are returning from injury, those who require a reduced schedule to focus in other extra-curricular activities, but still wish to maintain their fitness and technique. Committed training will enable them to join one of the Performance squads once the circumstances and criteria allow them or join a University swim team when they are older.
*Any exceptions to the criteria need to be discussed and agreed with the coaches and will be at their discretion.

- Every single event of the swimming programme (50 FLY/BK/BR/FREE, 100 FLY/BK/BR/FREE/IM, 200 FLY/BK/BR/FREE/IM, 400 FREE/IM, 800FREE for girls, 1500FREE for boys) according to the FINA swimming rules, with correct and confident technique.
- Every turn, including the IM ones and dive from the starting block according to the FINA swimming rules, with correct and confident technique.
