To join this squad a swimmer must be able to perform:
These criteria serve as guidance*. Coaches expect the right attitude and commitment from swimmers already in this squad or swimmers wishing to join this squad who are fully committed to team ethos, and goals (individual and team), to be on time and fully prepared for all sessions and competitions (training gear, water bottle, team kit etc).
2. COMMITMENT
Training: Time available 11.5 hours (7 sessions) per week
Minimum weekly commitment is 4 x pool sessions or 3 x pool sessions with Barnes SC if also training with school.
Competitions: Swimmers are expected to compete and represent BSC at County Championships, London Regional Championships, Level 2 & Level 3 Licensed Open Meets, Club Championships, and other Inter Club Swim Leagues. IAPS or other school galas are not part of the Swim England programme, so they will not be considered.
Swimmers not attending or competing regularly (below 50%) will continue their activity with JPD.
3. AGE
Girls and Boys 10-15
4. AIMS AND ASPIRATIONS
In training there will be an emphasis on aerobic conditioning, refining skills and technique in all strokes. In competition, P2 swimmers should aim to achieve County Qualifying Times, Regional Qualifying times, medals and finals in the galas, improving their PBs, without specialising in one stroke. This group will be introduced to varying levels of intensities of endurance work and varying types of speed work.
Progression through the Performance Squad (P1) system will be determined by training commitment (more than 50%), work ethic and competitive performance.
Swimmers whose current ambition, commitment or performance does not meet the criteria of P1, can continue their activity with the Junior Development Squad (JPD).
*Any exceptions to the criteria need to be discussed and agreed with the coaches and will be at their discretion.
